Translated from swedish: Beautiful pastel colors are combined with almost sketch-like brushstrokes that make the images appear to grow before our very eyes at times. The shadows in the bamboo forest, the movements in the blooming cherry trees, the portrayal of how nature changes with the seasons - all these delicate details etch themselves into memory. And then, most telling of all for the film as a whole: the gradual change in the princess's eyes as her existence shifts from a life of freedom and harmony with nature to increasingly resembling that of a caged bird.

Translated from swedish: Oscar-nominated "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" can be described both as a beautiful interpretation of an old, popular folk tale and as science fiction with a strong feminist message of freedom. Of these, the latter feels more entertaining.

Translated from swedish: There are plenty of moral lessons, but never so heavy-handed that they're shoved in your face. There are many fine jabs at people who are greedy, narrow-minded, and cruel. As a whole, Isao Takahata has created an experience as much as an animated film.

Translated from swedish: A film about human emotions versus moral corruption, social hypocrisy, and above all, death; life's greatest and most painful sensation, and the crack that trembles at the edge of this seemingly perfect state of consciousness on planet Earth. Leaving it behind is a breathtaking reality for everyone, and in Kaguya's earthly journey we can see our own transient lives reflected, as in a small insignificant puddle of tears.

Translated from swedish: A beautifully nuanced story about breaking free from oppressive structures, though you drift away from the message toward the end when the film's more supernatural elements slip in and create more questions than answers about the special princess's background. For devoted anime lovers, this is a unique spectacle worth checking out, but for others, it's probably the studio's most inaccessible work in a long time.

Translated from swedish: A melancholic, infinitely beautiful tale is told here with impressive artistry that rises to the level of visual poetry. This must be one of the most beautiful films ever produced by Studio Ghibli.
