A major key to the film’s success are the nuances, fluctuating attitudes, loaded looks and tonal inflections among the main characters; the ensemble work is terrific.

Payne is an unobtrusive director, a filmmaker who lets the script do the walking – in this case, perhaps too much. The characterisation never feels deep enough and he struggles to rein in the comic moments so they don’t jar with the core of the story: a woman lying motionless in a hospital bed.

Translated from swedish: Payne fans will undoubtedly be satisfied, as all the necessary ingredients are there and it is skillfully executed. But at the same time, a little push would have been needed, perhaps a tightening and more direction, to make it truly fantastic.
